Even if you’ve been doing makeup for a while, finding a new lip shade can be a hassle, what with skin tones, undertones, and the endless number of shades available to us.

Sometimes it is just so difficult to find what shade we want to buy or wear. A peachy pink, a milk tea shade, a classic red, or a vampy burgundy… the choices truly are endless.

Thankfully, we have a new TikTok hack to help us find our perfect lip shade. And by perfect, it really means that!

Here’s how it goes

Tiktok Perfect Lip Hack

This TikTok craze was started by user yokenzieb, and her video has since blown up with more than 4.7 million views and tons of people trying out the hack.

What is the hack? It’s actually so strikingly simple, you should already have everything you need in your vanity. And only one of these three products were designed to be used on your lips.

Here are the steps you have to follow to find your perfect lip shade:

  1. Line your lips with your go-to eyebrow pencil.
  2. Fill in the middle of your lip with your go-to blush.
  3. Top your lips with some lip gloss.

And that’s it, you’ve found your perfect lip shade that you can totally wear every day and look amazingly effortless in.

But how does this hack look on Asian skin tones? How does it feel to have all these non-lip products on your lips? Does it really and truly give you ‘the perfect lip shade’?

This hack had us so intrigued, we put it to the test – and this time, we gathered a few of us on the team to try it out!

How it looks like on us

Kristen, Editorial Director

Tiktok Perfect Lip Hack - Juliet

“I felt that it was a bit weird to use the eyebrow pencil and blush on my lips at first. But after applying the products, I found that they actually applied pretty well.

However, note that while the result does provide a nice contrast in photos, it actually looks a bit strange in person, mainly due to how dark my eyebrow pencil is.

The only thing I got out of this hack is that I wouldn’t mind using my favourite blush as a lipstick from time to time.”

“I tried to thoroughly blend the products together, but it still felt like it was a bit odd.

Rather than finding her perfect lip shade, I felt like I looked like I didn’t clean my mouth after eating chocolate ice cream instead!”

“This is how it looked like on me. I felt like the contrast was quite nice and not too dark, perhaps because my go-to eyebrow pencil is a light shade of brown rather than black or grey.

However, I feel that it was a bit weird to have powdery blush on my lips, especially since I had to pile it on to get it to show, as it was a glittery bright pink shade. It did feel better once gloss was applied.

I have to say I kind of like the contrast that it provides, but similar to Sabrina’s experience, it sort of looked like I had a rim of chocolate around my mouth too.”

And our verdict is….

It’s safe to say that none of us in our team recommend this TikTok hack, and we certainly don’t think that we found our perfect lip shade through this.

That’s not to say this TikTok hack was a total waste of time though, as it has opened some new methods to us on how to look for a great lip shade.

It’s a great idea to match up your lip shade with the blush on your cheeks as it is recommended for your blush and lippie to complement each other in the first place.

90s Dark Lip Liner Trend nikki_makeup

While we wouldn’t recommend lining your lips with an eyebrow pencil, we liked the contrast a dark lip liner brings.

But instead of a colour that matches your eyebrows, it might be better to go for a lip liner that’s a few shades darker than your lip colour instead.

Lining your lips with a darker shade was actually a trend back in the 90s! We can see why it is making a comeback through this hack.

If you’re still interested in trying this hack out, go ahead as it can still be a fun experience. Or you might want to check out our other TikTok trend tests such as the ombre blush trend and skin smoothing hack.
