Switching up the shade of the blush you usually use is an easy way to get out of the makeup rut without trying too hard. While most of us are thinking of giving up our pink blush for a purple one, a blue blush is probably not one that would come to mind.

A pink blush gives us a youthful glow, red blush offers a brightening effect, orange blush delivers a sunkissed look, and mauves appear sophisticated. But how would you look wearing a blue blush?

What does blue blush do for you?

Using a blue blush sounds very much out-of-the-box but users on TikTok and XiaoHongShu claim that using a pale blue blush helps to neutralise swallow skin tones. So instead of seeing it just as a blush, it also acts as a matte highlighter to even out your skin tone.

Blue blush also adds depth to any depressions of the face, giving you the appearance of a smoother and more even complexion.

To ensure that the blue blush doesn’t make you look pale and ghastly like a character from Corpse Bride, it helps to first dust on a thin layer of pastel pink blush on your lower cheeks to give your complexion a tinge of natural pigmentation.

Afterwards, layer the blue blush on top as a highlighter. Aside from that, it is also optional to highlight your facial features more. For this, you can dab some blue blush on the inner corner of your eye, around your nose, under your eyebrows, and even by the corners of your mouth.

This way, you’ll allow the blue blush to diffuse the natural flush from the pink. The matte finish of the blue blush will also give a nice glow and radiance to your skin sans shine.

Does blue blush work on darker skin tones?

Checking the comments section of those who have tried this beauty trick, users said that blue pigments may look patchy if you have a skin tone darker than a light-medium shade or might even cause you to look too pale.

Those with a darker skin tone will find that purple blush works the same way as blue blush on people with lighter skin tone.

Like blue blush on light complexions, a cool-toned purple adds depth and even out sallow undertones, while showing up better on dark skin tones.
