It seems like only yesterday when we would rush home from school to turn on the radio and listen to Cantopop group Twins, made up of singers Charlene Choi and Gillian Chung.
We’ve kept a close eye on them over the years. Yet, we were still shocked to learn that both these singers are about 40 years old?!
We could hardly believe our eyes because they still look so youthful. Their beauty secrets? Read on to pick them up for yourself!
Charlene Choi’s beauty tips
She has an intensive skincare routine
Charlene has an intensive skincare routine to treat her naturally dry face, so she opts for moisturising ingredients.
She also applies more nourishing facial masks overnight to keep her skin supple especially when she needs to film the next day. In fact, she applies facial masks at least two to three times a week to keep her skin in tip-top condition.
She believes in persistent skincare habits
Instead of merely using expensive skincare products, Charlene believes in persistent skincare habits such as double cleansing.
She also believes that applying too much skincare products can clog the pores so she always goes easy with them.
She drinks as much water as possible
Charlene mentioned that experts recommend to drink at least eight glasses of water a day to maintain good health.
While she admits that while she does not meet the minimum eight glasses, she still tries to drink as much water as possible throughout the day to keep her skin hydrated.
She is a firm believer of sunscreen and visits beauty salons
She always wears sunscreen, even if she is going to be spending most of her time indoors at home.
Another thing she does to maintain her healthy skin is visit a beauty salon regularly for deep cleaning such as blackhead removal and exfoliation.
Her favourite cosmetics products are foundation, concealer, and powder
This singer is fond of youthful makeup looks that take years off her age, and her favourite products to recreate these looks include foundation, concealer, and powder.
Charlene warned that you need to be careful and use good quality makeup, as there might be irreversible effects caused by low quality products.
She is a ‘sleep expert’
Charlene has claimed before to be a ‘sleep expert’ as she believes that sleep is helpful for taking care of your skin.
This has some truth to it as during sleep, blood vessel circulation will increase, and skin regeneration will be accelerated.
She exercises at least 15 minutes a day
No matter how busy Charlene is, she always sets aside at least 15 minutes every day so that she can exercise.
This is because she enjoys exercise, particularly Zumba, which promotes detoxification, improves metabolism and complexion, and helps perspiration.
She pays attention to her gut health
Whenever she finds acne at the corner of her mouth, she takes that as a sign that her gastrointestinal function is not very good.
To resolve this, she detoxifies carefully and reduces her sugar intake in order not to exacerbate her skin condition.
Her must-have product is a 24K Gold Beauty Bar
Whenever she wakes up in the morning, Charlene uses a golden beauty stick and presses it onto her face to make her eyes less prone to sagging.
She also uses this beauty device to press the acupuncture points around the face to promote better blood circulation.
She drinks black wolfberry rose tea and pear soup
Black wolfberry rose tea is said to be rich in antioxidants, allowing for better skin complexion, as well as the conditioning of the liver and the stomach.
Meanwhile, the pear soup requires pears, apricots, figs, and dried tangerine peel to be boiled in a pot. These ingredients help to moisten the lungs, clear dryness, and relieve cough, which makes it perfect for a dry environment.
Gillian Chung’s beauty tips
She slathers on the sun protection
Gillian is not one to slack off with her sun protection, as she usually uses up a 60ml tube of sunscreen within only a single month and applies sunscreen rigorously indoors.
Other than protecting her face, she always makes sure to apply a lip balm with sun protection too to avoid dull and peeling lips.
She cleans her skin with warm water and cold water
Instead of using hot water to clean her skin, Gillian uses room temperature water and cold water back and forth, as it helps to achieve a firming effect.
She also takes care to not clean her face more than three times a day, as it can be more detrimental to the skin due to over exfoliation.
She never squeezes her blackheads
While it is very tempting to squeeze our blackheads, Gillian never does so as squeezing can cause skin irritation and inflammation.
Instead, to prevent blackhead growth, she uses a retinoid cream with a concentration of 0.025% to reduce the blockage of hair follicles, making it difficult for acne to generate.
She has a ‘water drinking schedule’
In order to make sure she drinks the optimal amount of water every day, she sticks to a schedule to maintain good hydration:
- 7:00 AM after waking up
- 9:00 AM after breakfast
- 11:30 AM before lunch
- 1:00 PM after lunch
- 3:00 PM during teatime
- 5:00 PM before dinner
- 8:00 PM after dinner
Not only does she not get thirsty with this schedule, but she has also shed a few stubborn kilograms just by doing so.
She applies a face mask everyday
Gillian has a thing for face masks and often wears one every day. She typically applies them either before bed, during baths, or before her makeup routine.
After applying the mask, Gillian massages the product onto her face for a couple of minutes until it is no longer sticky, and the product has completely absorbed.
She uses the remaining essence in the face mask
In order not to waste her skincare products, Gillian will use the remaining essence in the face mask package.
However, she doesn’t apply it after her 20-minute face mask routine, as too much product can also lead to the formation of acne.
She chills her face mask before applying
In the summer, it can be soothing to put on a chilled face mask after a long day, but you cannot go too low in temperature as it can hurt your skin.
For Gillian, the ideal cold temperature is about 15 degrees, as it still allows skincare ingredients to work their magic.
She reminds herself to blink more
This is a pretty strange tip but it does have some logic behind it. With our eyes glued to the screen all day long, it can be easy to forget to blink, leading to fatigued eyes.
Blinking can help produce tears to moisten your eyes, resulting in less dry eyes. In the long run, this might help your eyes look less tired.
She uses both cheap to expensive skincare brands
One of Gillian’s most favourite skincare products is the clindalin*gel which is an acne-treating gel from Thailand that only costs RM24.50!
She does not have the habit of using beauty instruments and is not one to frequent beauty salons. Instead, she relies on her skincare routine to keep her complexion looking radiant and clear.
