If we had to say, the French manicure is likely one of the most classic nail arts of all time. There’s something about a simple coloured tip that just exudes elegance and simplicity.

While French manicure can be difficult to master, a TikTok hack has been going around that promises perfect nails in a matter of minutes.

We decided to put this hack to the test to see if it really works as promised.

TikTok hack for a perfect DIY French manicure

To get the perfect French tip shape in less than five minutes, you need a silicone nail stamper. Apply a small amount of nail polish to the bouncy surface, before slowly pushing the tips of your nail into the colour.

It should leave behind a flawless French tip. Other users have experimented with the technique, using an everyday makeup sponge instead of a silicone nail stamper.

Some users who use the makeup sponge technique says it results in easy application but requires some practice.

Here’s something similar we saw on Instagram Reels:

Trying the hack for ourselves

Tiktok Tip Hack Trying it Out

I didn’t have a silicone stamper, so I opted to use an old makeup sponge. I applied some black nail polish to one side of the sponge as it was also the only polish I had at the time and then slowly dipped my finger in.

However, just a little bit of pressure was enough to sink in a huge portion of my finger. I quickly realised that it was too much, and it did not fit the shape of my nail tip at all.

Tiktok Tip Hack Verdict

When I pulled it out, it did not look like the flawless French Manicure I was promised. Instead, it looked like I had just dipped my finger in ink and forgot to wash it off.

Furthermore, not only did it not look good, but it was also impossible to wash off the polish for the makeup sponge I had used. So, if you want to use this hack, you need to be okay saying goodbye to your trusty sponge.

Our verdict

While this viral TikTok hack may promise the perfect French Manicure of our dreams, it’s certainly more difficult than it seems when you’re attempting to do this yourself.

You would likely need many, many attempts to get this hack right, which would definitely bring the time over five minutes, but perhaps future attempts might become that short.

Also, you need to be okay with using up your makeup sponges as the polish is impossible to wash off.

Of course, it could be that you really need a silicone stamper for it to work, and we weren’t able to try it out this time.

But all in all, this TikTok hack isn’t for us – we’ll leave it to the professionals at our favourite salon instead, thank you.
