Our beauty routines before and during the MCO are vastly different. Besides wearing less makeup now, we spend a little more time in skincare.

Makeup wipes were never a huge part of our routine in the past. When we get home, we make sure to remove everything properly with a cleansing oil, so we usually only need makeup wipes for quick removals when we’re feeling lazy, or if we find it too cumbersome to bring along makeup removers when we head to the gym.

So here’s where it gets peculiar: we’ve actually been using more makeup wipes now than before. Read on to find out why and also why you may want to consider doing the same too.

1. Use makeup wipes to remove sunscreen

Compared to before the pandemic, we’re more conscientious with sunscreen application. Besides applying it in the morning before work, we reapply another layer twice in the day – usually at around 12 noon, and then again at around 4pm.

Note: You should wear a sunscreen even though you’re working from home. This is because UVA rays (the ones that are responsible for causing skin damage and accelerate skin ageing) are able to penetrate through your windows and affect your skin.

Without a full face of makeup, it feels a little excessive to do an intensive cleansing process with a regular makeup remover. In this instance, however, a makeup wipe feels like the perfect way to ensure that we get rid of sunscreen residue, as well as any impurities and grime we may have on our skin.

Note again: Sunscreen has to be removed with a makeup remover. A normal cleanser won’t cut it and you may notice pimples appearing if sunscreen is not removed thoroughly.

2. Use makeup wipes to remove masks

Leave-on masks, especially clay masks, can be quite cumbersome to remove, and we sometimes end up spending a lot of time at the basin trying to get everything off.

Well, we found out that makeup wipes are perfect for removing leave-on masks – yes, even clay masks, gently and thoroughly. It’s so much more convenient and a total time-saver, and we haven’t looked back since.

We know you may be wondering, “Will it remove the goodness from the mask that I’ve applied?” The short answer: no. The skincare goodness of the mask should have already penetrated into your skin, and what you’re removing is the excess product that isn’t absorbed.

3. Use makeup wipes to refresh your skin

Now that we’re home more, we don’t switch on the air-conditioner if the weather isn’t too hot – it’s better for our pockets and even better for the environment. And on warmer days, we tend to only switch it on in the afternoon and use a fan for most of the morning. Given Malaysia’s humid weather, this means that we’ll see some grease and shine on our faces by lunchtime.

Instead of washing with water, which can help refresh our skin but not remove grime and grease, we use a makeup wipe to gently freshen up. They’re perfect for a mid-day perk-me-up so our skin feels comfortable and we can get on with the rest of the day.
