Makeup Trends 2024: Glass Skin
Glass skin is “shockingly still trending”, at least through the upcoming year, according to Larry.
The Glass Skin look is all about achieving a flawlessly smooth, even-toned, and glossy complexion that gives the illusion of perfection, akin to glass.
Larry’s observation adds an intriguing twist to the discussion: it seems that the Southsast Asian makeup style and our perception of “skin-like” don’t quite align. In this style, the skin tends to be one to two shades lighter than the natural face color, and for some, even three to five shades lighter.
As we embark on the “new year, new me” phase, it’s important to recognise that achieving this flawless base doesn’t require caking on thick layers of foundation. Instead, we’re aiming for a fresh and natural glow!

Larry said, “I see radiant skin that is subtly glowing. It’s a hint of even skin tone without looking excessively applied.”
And while this “skin-like finish” isn’t exactly groundbreaking, as Larry reminded us, the technique matters just as much.
“With modernisation and improvements in cosmetic science, a lot of makeup should be skin-like depending on the context it is used at and has been happening since mid-2016 due to vast formulation improvement,” he emphasised.

Larry spilled the beans on his take on this trend, “What I really love and plan to stick with is the stain lip look with a glossy finish.” Brace yourselves for the stunning stain lip look with a luscious glossy finish. It’s a game-changer!
This year, K-beauty lip looks have been causing a frenzy on social media. The “jelly lips” trend has taken over, flooding our feeds with an array of lip tints and glosses from all the top brands. There’s just something about the natural allure of a flushed, glossy lip that elevates your entire look to new heights!
And guess what? The glossy lip obsession isn’t going anywhere in 2024. Gen Z is fully embracing the blurred lines, high sheen, and dimensional pop that glossy lips bring to the table. It’s a trend that’s here to stay!
So, which brands should you turn to for this fabulous trend? Larry’s got you covered. His go-to choices are Rare Beauty and Amuse makeup.

Makeup Trends 2024: Adding a Pop of Colour To Your Everyday Look
Larry believes that the new year will bring a fascinating trend of adding colour to a nearly bare face.
Larry said, “The exploration of adding colour to [an] almost bare face will be [trendy in 2024].”
As we’ve witnessed numerous beauty trends taking off on TikTok, get ready to see even more individuals embracing the 1980s vibes and incorporating vibrant color palettes into their everyday makeup routine. Larry describes it as bringing “the 1980s back into 2024” and that it’s all about “people realising they can have a bit of fun in their daily makeup.”

Makeup Trends 2024: Soft and Sultry Smokey Eyes
The timeless smokey eye has been a favourite look for generations, but the beauty industry is constantly reinventing this iconic style. In 2024, look forward a fresh twist called “latte makeup“, according to Peter.
“It’s basically a smokey eye but with a different name,” he revealed.
But what can we expect for 2024? It’s no longer about bold, intense smokey colors. Now, it’s all about embracing a neutral colour palette!
“I don’t see it being heavy makeup. Even though it’s smokey, it’s more about a soft, sultry vibe, highlighting the skin texture and that healthy glow,” explained Peter.

Peter emphasises the importance of skincare preparation before delving into the world of makeup. He believes that a solid foundation starts with taking care of your skin.
When it comes to foundation, Peter prefers a light application.
“However, if my client has skin concerns, I gradually build up the coverage,” he shared.
However, if his client has specific skin concerns, he gradually builds up the coverage to ensure a flawless finish.
Concealer is another essential tool in Peter’s makeup routine.
Sometimes, less is more, but you still need coverage. Using concealer makes the job easier,” he muses.
He emphasises that sometimes less is more, but coverage is still necessary. By using concealer strategically, he can effortlessly achieve the desired look.
To create a captivating smokey eye, Peter suggests experimenting with shades ranging from light to dark. This allows for the creation of both soft and intense looks. The key is to make the eyes the focal point, exuding a sultry vibe against a more natural base.

Peter believes that red is the ultimate timeless choice that suits any season and trend. He highlights the wide range of red shades that are taking over the market, including chili red, strawberry red, and burgundy red.
Although red has always been a beloved choice, Peter anticipates that in 2024, the spotlight will shift towards the brighter side of red. “I’d love to see some pinkish red or orangey red,” he shared.

Makeup Trends 2024: Skincare Benefits and Luminous Formulas
In the ever-changing world of the beauty industry, makeup is constantly evolving thanks to advancements in science and technology. Consumers are now on the lookout for products that can give them that “your skin but better” look.
When it comes to preparing the skin for makeup, Larry has noticed a growing trend among conscious consumers. He believes that brands like Naturiumskin will make a significant impact in the local market by focusing on educating consumers about the purpose and benefits of their products.
Speaking of makeup, Larry is excited about the future of foundations. He predicts that in 2024, we will see a surge in improved film-forming foundations. These foundations will not only refract light well but also evenly distribute pigment, offering effective coverage and a natural finish with just a minimal application.
On the other hand, Peter anticipates a rise in concealers that come with skincare benefits. He highlighted luxury brands like Clé de Peau, Dior, and Chanel, which are known for infusing skincare elements into their makeup.
“These concealers stay in place without looking too matte, giving a radiant glow that lasts all day,” he explained.

Makeup Trends to Ditch in 2024: Niacinamide-Infused Products
It may come as a surprise, but with the current obsession over this skincare ingredient, it’s high time we say goodbye to it in 2023.
Larry cautioned, “The market is saturated with niacinamide products, and excessive layering can cause irritation from overuse.”
However, Larry predicts that the upcoming year will see a rise in the popularity of “skin-strengthening ingredients” in makeup products.
In a world where we are easily influenced by ever-changing skincare trends on social media, particularly among the younger generation, incorporating these skin-strengthening formulas is essential, especially if you’re experimenting with actives and acids.
Makeup Trends to Ditch in 2024: “Clean Girl” Makeup
This trend had its moment in the spotlight in 2023, but unfortunately, we have to say goodbye to it as we enter 2024.
Larry chimed in, expressing his thoughts, “Clean girl makeup has been a bit overdone.” He highlighted that the intention behind it is to enhance your natural beauty, but some individuals tend to go a bit overboard, missing the essence of it.
Furthermore, he senses a shift away from the clean and natural beauty scene. He opined that advancements in cosmetic science are being made, and the attempts to create fear around it are losing their impact. This is especially when more informed beauty content creators like Larry and his peers share the facts around them.
