When we first watched the Charlie’s Angels films when we were younger, we wanted so badly to be just as fierce and beautiful as Lucy Liu, who played the character Alex Munday.

She’s definitely one of our favourite celebrities, so we’ve been keeping track of her over the years. Yet we were still surprised to hear that she’ll be celebrating her 54th birthday this December!

We really can’t believe how elegant this American-born Chinese actress still looks after all these years. We were seriously amazed as we scrolled through her Instagram.

To better understand how this star has aged so gracefully, we decided to do some research and compile her beauty secrets right here.

She doesn’t skimp on the sun protection

Lucy is among those celebrities who doesn’t skimp on sunscreen. This isn’t surprising to us considering her pretty much flawless complexion.

Other than that, this star also wears a hat and scarf around her neck and chest when she’s heading out. She says this is because those areas are more sensitive to the sun than the face.

She’s never gone for facials but does acupuncture instead

Facials are something this star doesn’t go for as she has a very minimalist approach to skincare.

One thing she is into, though, is acupuncture.

She often goes for treatments once a month and attributes this habit to her parents. She says that it can help the skin stay young and keep the weight off.

She sometimes skips using soap when cleansing

On days when Lucy is going bare faced, she typically washes her face with water and a washcloth without using any soap.

But on days on set where she has to wear a full face of makeup, she gently cleanses her skin with eye makeup remover followed by soap so she can avoid scrubbing and irritating the skin.

She always moisturises her skin

Lucy’s all-rounder moisturiser is the Aquaphor Healing Ointment. She also applies it on cuts and bruises as well as on chapped lips.

During nights, she mixes coconut oil and Avene Skin Recovery Cream on her face, while her choice for skincare for travelling is the Yu-Be Moisturising Skin Cream, which is unfortunately not available in Malaysia.

She mostly sticks to water and coffee

Lucy drinks a lot of water to keep herself healthy, as it can really help her skin glow, stay moisturised, and appear less dull.

She recently added coffee to her list of beverages as she found that she likes the taste of it, but only limits it to the morning as she thinks it is bad for the skin.

She’s serious about her fitness

The actress keeps an athletic physique that she works hard to maintain.  She’s recently gotten into the SoulCycle and regularly takes a 20-minute spin class on her at-home bike.

You could also say her plant-based diet does wonders for her clear complexion and slim figure. In December 2020, Lucy became a vegetarian and found that it gave her more energy while helping to reduce bloating.

Some of her favourite foods include savoury quinoa porridge and soup, which she brews with lotus root, red dates, and lion’s mane mushrooms.
