Thankfully, we may not have to wait long for more Crazy Rich Asians content, as there’s news of a spin-off with Gemma Chan in the lead role, reprising her role as Astrid Leong from the first film.
We looked at Gemma’s Instagram and were immediately floored by her sense of style and beauty. So, we did what we always do – compile her beauty tips so we could learn from it.

Gemma’s favourite serum is the L’Oreal Paris Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum (RM89.10, 30ml). The serum contains 1.5% hyaluronic acid to reduce fine lines and instantly plump the skin through deep hydration.
Her go-to moisturiser is the Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream (RM385, 15ml) which is an effective and popular brand especially among celebrities.
She uses eye cream and an eye massager
She reduces puffiness around her eyes using caffeine eye creams like The Inkey List Caffeine Under-Eye Serum (RM115, 15ml) or L’Oreal Paris Hyalyuronic Acid and Caffeine Eye Serum (US$32.99/~RM146, 0.67oz).
To increase its effectiveness, she uses the Foreo Iris Illuminating Eye Massager (RM640) to massage it in. This device also combat signs of stress and fatigue.
She uses a facial roller in the morning
Gemma loves the feel of a facial roller on her skin in the morning. Facial rollers can really help to improve blood circulation, decrease puffiness, and soothe the skin.
She does this step right in between eye cream and moisturiser and makes sure to cover every inch of her face including her neck.
She used to suntan, but no more

A former “sun worshipper” as she calls herself, she used to love tanning and basking in the warmth of the sun.
However, she doesn’t suntan anymore as she knows it is bad for her skin. Instead, she drapes some bronzer on her face for that effortless, sun-kissed glow.
She preps her lips before makeup
Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask (RM75, 20g) is a must-have in Gemma Chan’s lip care routine. She prepares her lips the night before if she knows she needs to wear makeup.
The leave-on lip mask is supposed to be applied before sleep, as it contains a unique moisture wrap ingredient to lock in hydration and keep your pout soft and nourished.
She only applies foundation where she needs it
Instead of applying foundation all over the face, this actress only applies product where she thinks she needs it.
This does not include her forehead, as she does not like the feel of foundation there. It can really help to balance out her complexion a bit.
She uses a cotton bud to soften her eyeliner
Soft edges seem to be a big part of Gemma’s look. Her signature way of doing eyeliner is to soften up the edges using a cotton bud.
We think the logic here is to have softer looking eyes. You likely won’t have eyeliner that appears too fierce or too gothic due to the blurred edges.
She uses a nourishing lipstick

Gemma uses the L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Reds of Worth Lipstick in shade Successful Red (US$10.99/~RM48.70, 0.13oz) as it is packed with argan oil and vitamin E.
It is a smooth gliding lipstick that gives intense coverage with a single swipe, and is totally non-drying, smudge-proof, and will last you all day long.
She applies invisible lip liner for ‘make out lips’
Rather than using a red lip liner to match her classic red lipstick, Gemma goes for a nude-coloured liner that appears almost invisible on her skin.
Then, she uses a fluffy eyeshadow brush to buff out the colour, so there are no hard lines. Your lips will almost appear as if you’ve just had a quick make out session.
She tries not to over-pluck her eyebrows
Back when she was a teenager, Gemma’s mother warned her not over-pluck her eyebrows. Unfortunately, she did not listen to her at the time.
This led to her having nearly pencil thin eyebrows for more than a few years, as it took a long time to grow back. This is why over-plucking is something that she is careful not to do again.
She unwinds with poetry

She reads poetry to unwind. The latest book on her bedside table is called A Poem For Every Night of the Year.
This book of poetry has pieces tailored towards a special day or season and allows Gemma to have let her imagination flow every day.
