Sephora carries an extensive range of beauty brands and thousands of beauty products including skincare, makeup, and haircare. But how are we supposed to know what’s worth buying, and what isn’t?

Although the key is to look at the ratings and reviews, it can be difficult to find what is top rated. Some products receive one five-star rating and get sorted to the top, while items with thousands of reviews at a four-star rating will get lost in the mix.

That’s why we decided to look through the most reviewed products for each category on Sephora Malaysia to find out what people say about them.

With nearly 23,000 reviews, it’s amazing how this Fenty Beauty foundation is able to stay so highly rated at an average of 4.2 stars.

This buildable, soft matte foundation comes in 50 different shades, so you’re sure to find a shade that suits your skin tone. Best of all, it’s got a second-skin texture for a comfortable, long wear.

Reviewers love how well it hides their blemishes and how well it sits on the skin, but some who rated it low complained that the product feels dry and cakey on their skin.

The Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation retails for RM180 on Sephora.

Skincare

We were surprised to see that a lip balm – of all things! – has the most reviews in skincare category, with almost 14,000 reviews at an average 4.5-star rating.

This lip balm moisturises and protects the lips with real sugar and a blend of nourishing oils including meadowfoam, black currant, and grapeseed oil.

The consensus seems to be the lip balm works well to hydrate the lips but might not be strong enough for drier climates. The scent of the product is a hit-or-miss.

The Fresh Sugar Tinted Lip Treatment Sunscreen SPF 15 retails for RM103 on Sephora.

Hair

The most-reviewed product for the hair care category goes to Olaplex’s hair treatment, with over 4,900 reviews at an average of 4.4 stars.

Suitable for every hair type, it is designed to strengthen and protect the hair from within, by relinking broken bonds caused by chemical, thermal, and mechanical damage.

It seems like this hair treatment is really like magic in a bottle as it really works to bring limp, dull hair back to life. However, a patch test may be needed as it has caused hair loss for some users.

The Olaplex No.3 Hair Perfector Treatment retails for RM140 on Sephora.

The coveted Beautyblender won out against a number of Sephora brand brushes for the most rated product in the Tools & Brushes category, with more than 2,800 reviews at an average rating of 4.6 stars.

If you’re new to the Beautyblender Pro, it’s a sponge that delivers flawless, perfect makeup application while touting to be easy to clean due to its darker colour.

Those who have purchased it say that it applies beautifully on to the skin and is very easy to clean, but some have complained that it is too expensive.

The Beautyblender Beautyblender Pro retails for RM99 on Sephora.

Bath & Body

Fragrances falls under the bath and body category, and the most rated one is the Marc Jacobs Daisy EDT, with a little over 2,700 reviews at an average rating of 4.5 stars.

Created back in 2007, the scent is described as floral and woody. It begins with sweet top notes of violet leaf, grapefruit, and strawberry while its middle notes are violet, gardenia, and jasmine, and its bottom notes are musk, white woods, and vanilla.

Many love how sweet, flowery, and feminine it smells as it’s not too light yet not too overpowering. Some dislike the scent, likening it to a cheap, musky soap, which goes to show you how people perceive smells differently.

The Marc Jacobs Fragrance Daisy Eau De Toilette retails for RM335 on Sephora.
